Editorial Guidelines

Last updated: 18 November 2025

Why these guidelines exist

HealCover is a calm, human-first space about mental health, gentle productivity, and self-growth. These guidelines explain how we create, review, and update content so you know what you are reading, where it comes from, and how seriously we take your trust.

What HealCover is here to do

HealCover is not a news site, a medical portal, or a replacement for therapy. It is a slow, reflective corner of the internet designed to:

  • Offer gentle, practical ideas for self-care and emotional regulation
  • Support calmer, more sustainable productivity, not hustle or burnout
  • Help you build daily habits that feel kind, realistic, and human
  • Normalize rest, sensitivity, and imperfect growth

Every article is written with the assumption that you are a real person with a real life, not a “productivity machine” who just needs to try harder.

How we create and shape content

Most HealCover articles begin as simple questions: “Why am I so tired all the time?”, “How do I slow my mind down at night?”, “How do I get things done without feeling like I’m sprinting every day?”

From there, we look at three key ingredients:

  • Evidence and research from psychology, neuroscience, and behavior science
  • Lived experience, including what has actually helped real people in daily life
  • Practical constraints, like limited time, low energy, or financial stress

We do not publish content that exists only to chase keywords, trends, or virality. If a topic is here, it is because we believe it can genuinely reduce distress or make your days feel lighter and more manageable.

How we use research and sources

When we refer to science or research, we aim to rely on:

  • Reputable journals, universities, or health organizations
  • Books and work from recognized clinicians, psychologists, or researchers
  • Large reviews or meta-analyses where possible, rather than single small studies

We try to translate research into everyday language and real-life examples, without exaggerating results or promising miracles. When evidence is mixed or uncertain, we aim to say so honestly.

Personal stories and lived experience

Mental health is not just about data and charts. It is also about how it feels to wake up anxious, to work with a tired brain, or to come home with nothing left in the tank.

When we include personal stories or examples, we:

  • Change or omit identifying details to protect privacy
  • Use composite situations drawn from common patterns, not single individuals
  • Aim to be respectful, non-sensational, and trauma-sensitive

Our goal is to help you feel less alone and more understood, while still honoring the complexity and uniqueness of your own experience.

Use of digital tools and writing assistance

We sometimes use digital tools to help brainstorm ideas, organize outlines, or refine wording. However, every piece of content published on HealCover is:

  • Reviewed, edited, and shaped by a human before it is published
  • Checked for clarity, tone, and consistency with our values
  • Adjusted to fit the gentle, calm, and grounded voice of HealCover

We do not publish content automatically without human oversight. If a piece does not feel honest, kind, or useful, it does not go live.

Updating, correcting, and improving content

Mental health research evolves, and so do people’s needs. When we learn something new, or when you tell us a piece of content could be clearer or more accurate, we aim to:

  • Update articles so they reflect our best current understanding
  • Clarify or adjust language that may feel confusing or unhelpful
  • Correct factual errors if they are found

If you believe something on HealCover is incorrect, misleading, or potentially harmful, please email us at support@healcover.com with a link and a short explanation. We do read these messages.

Affiliate links, products, and recommendations

Some of our articles include links to books, tools, or products, sometimes as affiliate links. When you buy through these links, HealCover may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

We only recommend items that:

  • Align with our values of gentle, sustainable growth
  • We genuinely believe can support mental clarity, nervous system regulation, or calmer productivity
  • We would feel comfortable recommending to a friend

Affiliate relationships do not dictate which topics we cover or what we say about them. Content comes first, monetization second.

Boundaries: what HealCover cannot do

HealCover is a supportive resource, but it has clear limits. It cannot:

  • Diagnose any condition
  • Offer personalized treatment plans or medical advice
  • Replace therapy, medical care, or crisis support
  • Decide for you what is right in your unique life circumstances

Every article should be read as general information and gentle guidance, not as a prescription or instruction specific to your situation.

Language, tone, and harm reduction

We try to write in a way that is:

  • Non-judgmental, even when talking about difficult habits or coping patterns
  • Soft but honest — not sugar-coating, not harsh
  • Trauma-informed where possible, avoiding unnecessary graphic detail

We aim to avoid language that shames, blames, or oversimplifies. If something on the site feels harsh, dismissive, or minimizing to you, we want to know about it, so we can do better.
